Fall Chuggim (Elective) Descriptions:

Chug Chava (Farm)

Mondays, 3:30-4:30pm on Abundance Farm with Farmer Rebecca

Open to Grades 2-5th

Come spend time on the chava! We'll do some farm work, spend some time in the forest, and maybe build some things together. We’ll connect our work to the Jewish calendar and cyclical nature of Judaism. Sign up if you like being outside or using tools! Transportation required.

Drawing, Painting, Collaging, & Creating Our Way Through the Siddur

Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00pm on Zoom with Morah Dara

Open to Grades 4-8th
When we pray as Jews, we are connecting with the past -- the generations of Jews who came before us and expressed their deepest hopes, fears, and feelings using the same words we find in our siddur (prayerbook) today. When we understand what that tefilot (prayer) mean to us, we can find deeper meaning. In this chug, we will be drawing, painting, and creating our own personal responses and explorations of our weekly Shabbat morning prayers. Sign up if you enjoy creating art, and want to explore how we each understand these Jewish ideas in our own lives. Necessary supplies will be provided.

---

Chug Aish (Fire)

Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30 on Abundance Farm with Farmer Rose

Open to Grades 6-8th

Fire plays a unique role in how we communicate with the divine, dedicate sacred spaces, and mark sacred time in Judaism. Sign up for this chug if you want to learn how to build and respectfully tend a fire on the Farm! We’ll discuss what is Jewish about Fire? And how do we use fire to practice ritual and build community? Transportation required.

Zeydi's Kitchen

Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00pm on Zoom with Zeydi

Open to Grades 4th-8th

Food is an amazing way to learn about and connect to our Jewish past.  Through delicious creations, we will examine the history of Jewish diasporas, looking at how certain ingredients got to our tables, why we eat what we eat, and what has changed over the centuries. We will explore a variety of Jewish cuisines and gain confidence in the kitchen while learning about Jewish foods around the world. Sign up for this chug if you want to chop, cook, bake, and taste your way through Jewish histories, hear salty tales, and spice up your understanding of the past. Some prior experience in the kitchen is helpful, but not required. We will go over kitchen safety and expectations together. Necessary supplies will be provided.

Torah Story Art

Mondays, 5:00-6:00pm on Zoom with Morah Dara

Open to Grades 2-5th

Each week, Jews around the world read and discuss the same parsha -- the same section of the Torah. In this chug, we will join in this practice of Torah study, combining storytelling, discussion, and story art and create an art project where we explore what happens in the week's parsha. We will be interpreters, developing our own understanding of these stories and how they are relevant to our lives. Necessary supplies will be provided.
