CBI Dues
OUR VALUES
We value increased accessibility - from Saturday services to shabloom to shiru CBI programming offers radical entry points into the Jewish Community for people who never thought they would be members of a synagogue and those who have always wanted to join.
We value improved inclusivity – one of the joys of this vibrant community is that members come from all walks of life, and we want to meet people where they’re at, we also know that financial vitality is dependent on the commitment of everyone to support this community; asking those with abundance to share more is as respectful as allowing those without to contribute less.
We value financial responsibility - every household is invited to be a part of our shared community investment, by making a meaningful pledge. These pledges create a more sustainable and predictable foundation for the future. This clarity allows us to confidently plan for living wages for our staff, invest in environmental sustainability, and ensure that our budget reflects our collective values and aspirations.
FAQ
What does this mean for you, as a member?
Annually, members are sent a “Fair Share Dues” pledge form. We ask that you consider your current financial situation using our assessment tool. You will fill out the form (paper or electronic) indicating at what level and when (annually, quarterly, monthly) you will contribute.
What happened to the old models?
Previously, CBI had a strict dues membership model. This model did not meet the values of including lower and moderate-income families in Jewish community, so CBI implemented a discounted scale. While some strong supporters paid “enhanced dues,” this model has not led to consistent revenue that supports the current programming. In 2023-2024, CBI put together a diverse committee to try to find alignment with the values of the community and the fiscal responsibility to ensure the long-term health of the community. The board voted to switch to a “Fair Share” model in the 2024-2025 membership year.
Where do my dues go?
Dues support approximately one third of CBI’s budget. Some programs are mostly funded by tuition, other programs are offset by grants. Every dollar of dues goes to making CBI run – spiritual staff, holiday programming, building maintenance, etc. Check out the CBI budget and financial information here >>
