Bio

I enjoyed being on the Bylaws Committee so much that I haven’t managed to stay away from shul governance matters since, so the time feels right to run for the Board. CBI has been vital to my life since my spouse, Jen Wenz, and I moved here in 2016. It was the first synagogue we’d found where, all at once, diversity in observance levels was an “of-course”, divrei Torah regularly involved a congregation-wide talk-back, and social justice and even teshuva were modeled from the pulpit. As a member of the Ritual Committee, a Shared Abundance Gardener, a Shabbat and High Holiday services leader and leyner, and, sometimes, a hallway chatterer or Just-For-Kiddusher (schmoozing builds social fabric!), I have benefited deeply from opportunities to receive, to contribute, and to connect. But I am also aware that, no matter how much CBI feels like a second skin to me, there are many–both in our membership as well as in our broader local Jewish community–who feel uncertain of their place here, especially after the internal and external turbulence of the past few years. Accordingly, my intentions for Board membership include ensuring broad, equitable representation and building collective knowledge and trust as we continue to refine what we want to do together and how we want to do it. How fun that, in the process, I would have a mandate to get to know all of us better. I studied at Yeshivat Hadar and Harvard Divinity School before receiving my MSW from Smith. Outside of CBI, I’ve been a clinical social worker since 2018, served on the 2025 Northampton Ordinance Review Committee, practice meditation, and will be writing Omer poems for the 14th consecutive year.
