CBI is a jewish community, learn more about us!

What is CBI?

CBI is a vibrant, social justice-minded jewish community in Northampton Massachusetts. To some we are a synagogue, to others we are a farm, a preschool, a community, and/or spiritual home.  â€‹

what are services like?

As a USCJ-affiliated congregation, our services follow the traditions and practices of the Conservative movement. Services are songful and participatory.

What books do you use?

We use two books: the Siddur Lev Shalem is our prayer book and the Etz Hayim Humash contains the Torah portions. On Shabbat we use both books, on Friday nights we use only the Siddur Lev Shalem.

What should i wear?

CBI does not have a dress code for services. Some community members opt to dress up for Shabbat and holidays, but everyone is invited to come as they are. Those participating in the ritual components of services (those coming to the Bimah) are asked to wear a tallit when doing so. Tallit are available in the hallway outside the sanctuary.

Can I use my phone at CBI?

Cellphone use is not permitted in the Sanctuary. This includes photography during services. You are welcome to use your phone elsewhere on our campus.

Where can I find the things I need for services?

Siddurim, humashim, kippot, and tallit are all available in the hallway before you enter the sanctuary.

Where are the bathrooms?
Bathrooms are located down the hallway just before the sanctuary (turn left when facing the sanctuary). These bathrooms are gendered. A single-stall accessible restroom is locate off the center hallway.
