About the Event

Come together for a Shabbat observance to celebrate the work being done, learn about efforts underway in our community, and explore actions we can take to honor and protect the stranger in our midst. D’var Torah by Rabbi Devorah Jacobson and Jane Myers. Kiddush to follow.

Welcoming and honoring the stranger, including the immigrant, are core values of our Jewish tradition: "When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not wrong him. The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as one of your citizens; you shall love them as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt" (Leviticus 19:33-34).

As Jewish people, our history as "strangers" reminds us of the many struggles faced by immigrants today. We affirm our commitment to create the same opportunities for today's immigrants that were so valuable to our own community not so many years ago. Amidst a nationwide crackdown by ICE that is violating immigrants’ civil rights and those of individuals protesting to protect their neighbors and their communities, we will gather for Shabbat morning service and a special interfaith Havdalah focusing on immigrant justice and advocacy.

Join us again at 7:30 pm for an Interfaith Havdalah Gathering, learn more and register here.
